I’m afraid I will be the youngest (or the oldest) one at the Center; what is the average age?
The average age of membership is 74, but our members range in age from 50 to 90+.
I don’t live in Chelsea; can I still join?
Yes, our Senior Center is open to seniors living in the Chelsea area AND surrounding communities.
May I come for lunch at the Senior Center?
Yes, everyone is invited to join us for a hot meal with salad and dessert served Monday through Friday at noon. The program is run by Chelsea Schools and funded through Area Agency on Aging 1B and Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development. Diners over 60 are asked to register with the Senior Nutrition Program (Chelsea Senior Center membership not required). Suggested donation for those over 60 years of age is $3, guest price is $4. We ask that you call 734.475.9242 at least 24 hours in advance to make your reservation.
We also offer a Meals on Wheels option for home-bound seniors. Ask our staff for more information.
What if I am no longer driving?
Many Chelsea Senior Center members carpool or ride the W.A.V.E bus to the Center. The W.A.V.E. (Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express) offers transportation for Chelsea and Dexter residents, including door-to-door bus service in the Chelsea and Dexter area. They can be reached at 734.475.9494. We also have our C2S2 Program that will work to match you with a volunteer who can provide occasional rides.
How can I make a tax-deductible donation?
The Chelsea Senior Center accepts in-kind and cash donations. When you donate to the Chelsea Senior Center, you will receive a receipt for you to use when preparing your taxes. For in-kind donations, please contact our staff to discuss the Center’s needs.
