When does the Senior Center close?
The Senior Center closes for many traditional holidays and when Chelsea Schools are closed for bad weather. 

Do you have to be a certain age to join the Senior Center?
No. Though most programs and activities are focused on meeting the needs of older adults, we welcome membership from anyone who would like to support our organization. We currently serve over 1287 active members.

I’m afraid I will be the youngest (or the oldest) one at the Center; what is the average age?
The average age of membership is 74, but our members range in age from 40 to 100+.

I don’t live in Chelsea; can I still join?
Yes, our Senior Center is open to anyone living in the Chelsea area AND surrounding communities.

May I come for lunch at the Senior Center?
Yes, everyone is invited to join us for lunch. Diners over 60 and better and who register with the Senior Nutrition Program (Chelsea Senior Center membership not required) are able to enjoy lunch for a $3 suggested donation. Diners under 60 and those who choose not to register for the Senior Nutrition Program pay $5. We ask that you call 734.475.9242 at least 24 hours in advance to make your reservation.

We also offer a Meals on Wheels option for home-bound seniors. Ask our staff for more information.

What if I am no longer driving?
Many Chelsea Senior Center members carpool or ride a WAVE bus to the Center. A ride on a WAVE (Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express) bus is free for Chelsea area seniors 60 or better with a bus pass. Call Chelsea Senior Center  at 734.475.9242 to get your free passes then call the WAVE to schedule a ride at 734.475.9494.  WAVE also offers transportation for Chelsea and Dexter residents, including door-to-door bus service in the Chelsea and Dexter area. 

For transportation needs outside of what WAVE can offer, please call the Center and our ROAM program staff will work to provide options.

How can I make a tax-deductible donation?
The Chelsea Senior Center accepts in-kind and cash donations. When you donate to the Chelsea Senior Center, you will receive a receipt for you to use when preparing your taxes. For in-kind donations, please contact our staff to discuss the Center’s needs. To make a donation in other ways, see our Ways to Give page.

What do I get if I become a Chelsea Senior Center member?
Membership in the Chelsea Senior Center entitles you to a newsletter each month and a discounted rate for most programs, trips, and classes. Your annual membership supports our operations and programs so that we can continue to be a vital part of our community.

What are the Center’s regular hours?
Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4 pm. Please leave a message if you call after hours. We will contact you when we return to the office.

Where is the Senior Center located?
512 Washington Street, Chelsea, MI 48118 also known as Washington Street Education Center / WSEC / Old Chelsea High School. Click here for more detailed directions.

Funding for all CSC programs comes significantly from local support, including sponsorships and private giving, as well as from grants. Every dollar impacts seniors in our community every day.
