Chelsea Senior Center Annual Community Open House
September is National Senior Center Month, and this year Chelsea Senior Center is celebrating with a theme that captures what we know about aging: “The Best Chapters Are Still Being Written.” Throughout the month, we’ll be celebrating the stories, experiences, and possibilities that make every chapter of life meaningful.
We kicked off the celebration with our Community Open House on Wednesday, September 9. Community members who are newly retired, new to Chelsea, looking for ways to connect, or simply curious about what happens at Chelsea Senior Center came to see what their next chapter could look like.
What’s your next chapter? Maybe it’s learning something new, picking up an old hobby, making new friends, getting more active, traveling somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, sharing a skill, or simply finding a place where you feel connected and welcome. At Chelsea Senior Center, there are countless ways to begin, or continue, your next chapter.
“Every person has a story, and we believe there are always more chapters to write,” says Jennifer Smith, Executive Director. “Our Annual Community Open House offers a chance for people to step through our doors, explore what we offer, and imagine what might be possible for them. You never know what new interest, friendship, or adventure might be waiting for you.”
During the show-and-tell experience, community members explored the center at their own pace to discover something that might inspire their next chapter. Led by CSC volunteers, participants:
Enjoyed music as members jammed on harmonica, acoustic guitars, and drums.
Took in the creativity on display and discovered what they can create through wood carving, stained glass, knitting and crochet, quilting and more.
Chatted with players who gather for Euchre, Mah-jongg, Cribbage, Pinochle, Hand and Foot, Scrabble, Mexican Train, billiards and pool.
Learned more about exercise and movement classes such as strength training, line dancing, square dancing, cardio drumming, yoga, or Tai Chi.
Checked out pickleball to find out what all the excitement is about.
Discovered upcoming adventures with our travel group.
Stopped by the farm stand for fresh vegetables.
Explored activities that support well-being such as Cranium Crunchers, designed to strengthen cognitive recall.
Toured A Brief Stop, our adult personal needs pantry.
Learned about support groups including the Loss & Healing Group and A Moment for Me: A Caregiver Support Group.
Talked with the coordinators of Ease the Day, an adult day program that gives family caregivers some much-needed time to themselves.
Sometimes, beginning a new chapter starts with simply walking through the door. Whether you participated in our Annual Community Open House or not, we invite you to stop by any weekday from 8:30 - 4:00 to discover the many ways you can get involved. The best chapters are still being written, and yours could be next.
