CSC Annual wellness Fair & Flu Shot Clinic: Keeping our Community Safe & Healthy
Chelsea Senior Center’s annual flu clinic has become a popular community event, with approximately 90 people receiving a free flu vaccine at CSC this year. “Since the summer of 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that adults 65 years and older get immunized with what’s known as a high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccine,” according to AARP. These shots offer greater protection for older people who may not have as strong a response to vaccination. Both senior flu vaccine for those over 65 and standard flu vaccine for any age were available and administered by UM Health-Community Health Services at CSC’s Wellness Fair & Flu Shot Clinic.
The goal of the CSC Wellness Fair and Flu Shot Clinic each year is to make staying healthy as convenient as possible for the people in our community by bringing vaccinations and local health and wellness resources together in one place. The Wellness Fair gave attendees a chance to meet representatives from local organizations and learn about resources and programs that support healthy aging. Fifteen participating organizations included AgeWays, 5 Healthy Towns, Faith in Action, the Chelsea District Library and the Chelsea Area Fire Authority, among others. The event was also a great chance for people who may not have visited the Chelsea Senior Center to stop in, meet us, and learn ways CSC can help write their next chapter.
We are grateful to the community partners who shared their time, knowledge, and resources to make this year’s Wellness Fair & Flu Shot Clinic a success. We look forward to continuing this annual tradition at the beginning of flu season, helping make preventive care and wellness resources more accessible to older adults and the broader community.
